My Approach
As an integrative psychotherapist, I adopt a multidisciplinary approach in my work, which means that I will blend a variety of different therapeutic modalities, allowing me to tailor-make the therapy to suit your individual needs in a highly creative and personalised way. I work holistically and match each of our sessions to you and what you bring, by looking at what is present in the here and now (person-centred) as well as exploring how this connects back to your early life (psychodynamic). Part of our work together will also look at what a meaningful life looks like for you (existential), paying attention to the qualities that are within you (transpersonal).
I approach our work with an open heart and offer a friendly space where you will be safe to explore what is troubling you. I am optimistic and pragmatic, seeing the therapy space as a place to experiment with new ways of being and becoming and where laughter as well as tears are most welcome.
These are some of the different ways we may work together in sessions:
Looking at ego states and Transactional Analysis in order to understand how you relate to others and how they receive you.
Looking at they ways you relate to yourself by looking at the parts of you that feel anxious, traumatised or depressed to work towards a more integrated and balanced healthy sense of self.
Acknowledging and validating your inner child which can be very healing.
Gestalt therapy is a very active way of working with you in the room and can include chair work to bring clarity to internal and external conflict in your life.
Mindfulness forms a backdrop to our work and here we create greater awareness of your thoughts and feelings against what you can sense in your body, from moment to moment in the room, in a holistic manner.
Looking at your life and the challenges you face through the psychodynamic lens, we explore possible unconscious drivers behind the challenges you face and often this includes a comprehensive appraisal of your early life.
Deploying CBT techniques in order to address unhelpful thinking patterns.
Inviting you to do visualisations, art and sandtray work where appropriate, to tap into creative and more intuitive answers.
You may benefit from individual therapy if you experience:
Confusion, frustration or distress over your ability to make and sustain positive change in your life.
Feeling overwhelmed by the demands of daily living.
Feeling sensitive to the judgment of others.
Wanting relief from stress, anxiety, trauma and/or depression.
Difficulties in coming to terms with challenging circumstances in childhood.
Using unhealthy coping strategies to cope with the present and past.
Feelings of loneliness, loss of meaning or unfulfillment in career.
Difficulties with communication and emotional expression in relationships.
Wanting support to work through grief and loss of any kind in life.
